How We Practice Palliative Care
- Outpatient Clinic – Most of the time patients can be treated as outpatients. The aim is to allow them to take the treatment in the convenience of their own home. We teach the family how to take care of the patient. Medicines are prescribed and written out in a chart to understand easily. We also address the emotional issues of patient and family.
- Inpatient Care – Sometimes patients’ symptoms like pain or vomiting are severe and unmanageable at home. In situations like this, we admit them to treat and control the symptoms and send them back home as early as possible.
- Home Visits – When patients are unable to come to the clinic, the palliative care team visits them at home, and gives the necessary treatment and care.
- Lymphoedema Clinic – There may be swelling of the hands and legs due to cancer or its treatment which decreases mobility and may be quite distressing. We teach the specific ways of massage, exercises, positioning, and bandaging to help reduce the swelling.
